I started Nuthatch Studio with a simple idea: to create art that both delights and cares for our planet. Since then, I’ve been steadily growing my collection of products that prioritize beautiful design, craftsmanship, social responsibility, and sustainability.

Art has the power to create beautiful connections. I create art so you can add beauty to your home, bring smiles to your loved ones with a handwritten card, or give a unique, thoughtful gift that shows you care—all while giving back to help our planet thrive.

Although this is currently a one-woman show, nothing is built alone. So many people have shown up with their support for this passion project of mine, and for that, I am beyond grateful. Thank you for being here, for shopping small, and for supporting my creative business!

Values & Commitments

As a business owner and human on this planet, I feel a deep responsibility to cause as little harm to our planet and all people as possible. From the start, I have put an enormous amount of energy into figuring out ways to make products that support fair work practices, help reduce my impact on the environment, and don’t add to landfills or junk in people’s lives.

In 2025, Nuthatch Studio joined 1% for the Planet, committing to donate at least 1% of annual revenue to vetted environmental partners. For businesses of any size, contributing 1% of sales—not profits—is a real and substantial commitment. While I can always give more, I will never give less than 1%. All together for our planet.

Why Nuthatch?

Around the time I was choosing a name for my studio, a little brown bird was regularly hanging out in the eaves outside my kitchen window. I learned my little friend was a Brown-headed Nuthatch and that this species had a couple of unique and rare behaviors for birds. First, Brown-headed Nuthatches live in family groups and often have “helper” birds that help care for new hatchlings. Second, they use tools, like bark and twigs, to forage for food. Clever little fluffs!

The Nuthatch’s community-oriented nature and problem-solving abilities struck a chord with me. These little birds embodied the values I wanted my brand to reflect: creativity, connection, and kindness (not to mention they are adorable). And so, Nuthatch Studio was born.

About Chrissie

Hello! I’m Chrissie, founder of Nuthatch Studio and a designer & illustrator with a love for creating colorful and delightful illustrations and patterns. I’m a nerd for color theory, organization of all kinds, and picking fonts with just the right personality for the job. When I’m not in the studio, you can find me channeling my inner Martha Stewart in other creative pursuits, devouring the latest romantasy novels, or adventuring in wild, beautiful places with my husband, son, and doodle dog.

I graduated from the College of Design at North Carolina State University with a Master of Art + Design and a Bachelor of Graphic Design. I began my journey into freelance design and entrepreneurship after nearly 15 years of working with in-house design teams, where I collaborated with a diverse range of clients on everything from immersive museum exhibits and interactive games to comprehensive design systems and user experience design.

I love to collaborate and bring projects to life through illustration and design. Whether you need vibrant illustrations, captivating surface pattern designs, or an authentic brand for your business, I am ready to help you turn your vision into a reality.
